Q&A with Mike Smith, Jr.

What are the things you are looking for in a potential school?
I am looking for strong academics, great coaches, and I want to feel like I am part of the family.  I’m also taking into consideration the different degree programs, location, and facilities.

What are some of your favorites?
I love Cinnamon Toast Crunch, wings and burgers.  For entertainment it’s Star Wars, Marvel, Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, and Rap, R&B, and Gospel.  And I cheer for the Michigan Wolverines, the Chicago Cubs, Bulls, and Bears as well as the NY Giants (so long as they have OBJ).

What are some of your greatest accomplishment in sports?
Helping my team reach the Chicagoland Pop Warner 14U playoffs in our first year in the league–we played with a chip on our shoulders.  Also, qualifying for the USATF track & field Nationals this year.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t take things for granted.  Be humble and thank God everyday—without Him nothing is possible.

Who is a current player (collegiate or pro) that you seek to emulate on the field?
I actually have two.  Odell Beckham, Jr. is so fun to watch.  I would love to train with him—his work ethic is off the charts.  Also, Richard Sherman—that guy can cover anyone.  I watch his DB technique and his man-to-man play.  He is no joke!

What are your personal goals for this season?
I’ll be attending Rockford Guilford High School next fall and plan to use the summer to attend various skills camps, including the Under Armour All-American middle school camp.  I want to be around coaches that matter and help me develop into the best possible football player I can be.

Anything else you’d like fans and coaches to know about you?
I like being me.  I love electronics and computers, creating things, and hanging out with my football brothers.  I had a lot of fun making my own highlight reel (embedded below), check it out.
